Task Types & Ordering
Task Types in Smarty
1. Sub-tasks: Sub-tasks are individual items associated with a primary or parent task. They help you break down a complex task into manageable parts. In Smarty, these sub-tasks are scheduled and managed under their parent task. However, you have the flexibility to drag a sub-task out to convert it into a standalone parent task.
2. Rolled-over Tasks: Didn't finish a task today? No worries! In Smarty, any task left unfinished by the day's end will automatically roll over to your list for the next day, ensuring nothing slips through the cracks. Rolled over uncompleted tasks are positioned at the top of your list or column view, but with a collapsed header so you can start each day with a clean slate.
3. Completed Tasks: Once you complete a task, it will appear under the "completed" section on the specific day it was finished. It's a great way to track your productivity and accomplishments. On column view, you can see all that you accomplished this week at a glance!
4. Recurring Tasks: Have tasks that repeat daily, weekly, or monthly? Recurring tasks in Smarty have you covered. Refer to our detailed guide on recurring tasks for a deep dive.
Task Ordering and Navigation in Smarty
Organizing tasks efficiently can help improve your workflow and productivity.
Task Ordering
New tasks appear at the next available time slot today. Tasks don't follow the default custom working hours unless they're auto-scheduled.
Rolled over uncompleted tasks are positioned at the top, ensuring a fresh start each day.
Completed tasks reside at the bottom, with the most recent at the top.
If a task has a set start time, Smarty logically positions it.
Reordering Tasks
Drag and drop tasks within the list, column, or calendar view.
Understanding Column Content
Tasks in a column may:
Represent completed tasks (for past columns).
Display planned tasks (for future columns).
Show a mix of both (for the current day).
Navigating Between Columns
Move tasks between days either by dragging and dropping or updating the task's start date.
Multi-Day Tasks
Smarty aids in tracking multi-day tasks:
Continue the task the next day or drag it to another day.
Monitor progress if time was logged or a subtask was completed.
